Describe how a manager would behave as an active listener when communicating with subordinates.

  1. The manager's goal in active listening is to help the subordinate say what he or she really means.

To do this, the manager should carefully listen for the content of what someone is saying, paraphrase or reflect back what the person appears to be saying, remain sensitive to nonverbal cues and feelings, and not be evaluative.
